Chelsea allocate squad number to Wayne Rooney?

Chelsea will hand Wayne Rooney the number 23 shirt if he leaves Manchester United to move to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has already been allocated a squad number at Chelsea ahead of a possible transfer to the club, according to a report.

Chelsea have already had a bid rejected for the 27-year-old, but it has been reported that Blues manager Jose Mourinho is confident that he can secure Rooney's signature.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have also ensured that the number 23 shirt remains vacant at Stamford Bridge for the potential arrival of Rooney.

The number is seen to have the biggest commercial appeal after previously being worn by David Beckham and basketball legend Michael Jordan.
