Louis van Gaal: 'Victor Valdes will leave Manchester United'

Louis van Gaal casts doubt on Victor Valdes's Manchester United future following speculation linking him to Valencia.

Louis van Gaal has hinted that Victor Valdes has no future at Manchester United, having omitted the goalkeeper from the pre-season tour of the United States.

The 33-year-old, who only joined United on an 18-month contract in January, has been linked with a season-long loan to Valencia this summer.

It was announced on Monday that Valdes would not travel with the Red Devils to America, but he later revealed that he was still "working hard" for the upcoming season.

However, Van Gaal has intimated that the ex-Barcelona man - who was a free agent before joining the Red Devils - will be sold for failing to adhere to his "philosophy" and snubbing reserve games.

"Valdes is not selected because he doesn't follow my philosophy. The philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm," he is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"He refused last year to play in the second team. There are a lot of other aspects in the philosophy how you have to play like a goalkeeper at Manchester United. When you are not willing [to apply] the principles of that philosophy there is only one way, and that is out.

"For us this is a big disappointment. We thought he would follow our philosophy. It's a pity because we have given the opportunity to rehabilitate. Then we gave a contract. Then of course he is fit to play. When you're not playing in the first selection, you have to play in the second selection."

Valdes has started one game since joining the club.
