Paul Scholes: 'Roy Hodgson may rue Luis Suarez comments'

Paul Scholes believes that Roy Hodgson was unwise to question the ability of Luis Suarez, ahead of England's meeting with Uruguay on Wednesday.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has claimed that England manager Roy Hodgson's dismissive comments about Luis Suarez could return to haunt the Three Lions on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Hodgson suggested that the Liverpool striker was not yet on the elite level in the world game, but Scholes thinks such a tactic from the national manager could prove costly when they play Uruguay in the World Cup.

Speaking in his Paddy Power blog, Scholes said: "Roy Hodgson has questioned whether Suarez is world class yet and challenged him to do it at the highest level.

"This can be a dangerous thing: ask David Moyes. Before Everton played Liverpool in October 2012 I remember David Moyes had a pop at Suarez about his diving.

"A few days later Suarez celebrated a goal by diving in front of Moyes in the dugout."

Uruguay lost their first game 3-1 to Costa Rica on Saturday.
