Newcastle United's Papiss Cisse pleased with displays last season

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse admits that he was happy with the level of his performances for the club last season after he notched 11 goals.

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has revealed that he was pleased with his displays for the Magpies last season.

The 30-year-old notched 11 goals for the Tynesiders in the campaign, although his season was marred when he was suspended for seven matches for spitting at Manchester United's Jonny Evans.

Cisse is determined to build on his performances next campaign after Newcastle managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the season.

He told the club's official website: "I was happy with the season from a personal point of view. As it came to the end, the most important thing was that the team stayed in the Premier League. That was all that mattered.

"After that, I obviously wanted to be an important part of the team and scoring goals. I didn't play as many games as I would have liked during the season, but I had 11 goals, so I have to be quite happy.

"Now, I want to make sure that the new season is even better and that I can score goals to help the team have a much better season."

Newcastle appointed Steve McClaren as the club's new manager to replace John Carver.
