Fernando Santos named new Portugal boss

Former Greece boss Fernando Santos is named the new head coach of Portugal.

Experienced manager Fernando Santos has been named the new head coach of Portugal.

The news was confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation, who had been on the lookout for a new boss after Paulo Bento left his position earlier this month.

Santos, who led Greece into the latter stages of the World Cup this summer, has previously coached Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

The 59-year-old has also led AEK Athens, Panathinaikos and PAOK during a managerial career that has spanned nearly 30 years.

Portugal went out in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup, while they lost 1-0 to Albania in their first Euro 2016 qualifier last time out.
