Qatar coach Felix Sanchez announces his 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup as the nation prepare to host the tournament.

Felix Sanchez has confirmed his Qatar squad for the upcoming World Cup, naming 26 players who play in the Qatar Stars League.

Sanchez's reliance on domestic players comes as no surprise with exactly half of the squad represented by players from Al-Sadd, the current top-flight champions.

Five members of the group have earned in excess of 100 caps, including captain and forward Hassan Al-Haydos who has 36 goals from 169 appearances for his country.

Defensive duo Abdelkarim Hassan and Boualem Khoukhi, as well as midfield pair Karim Boudiaf and Abdulaziz Hatem, are the other four players who are in three figures.

However, there are four players who have earned two caps or fewer, with Jassem Gaber yet to represent his country in the senior ranks.

As well as Al-Haydos, Almoez Ali also brings the biggest goal threat having scored 42 times in 85 appearances.

While Qatar are competing at their first-ever World Cup, they had success at the 2019 Asian Cup, beating Japan in the final to lift the trophy for the first time.

Sanchez's side have been drawn in a group alongside Netherlands, Senegal and Ecuador, their opening fixture taking place against the latter on November 20.
