Jake Taylor strike seals victory for Reading

Reading beat Ipswich Town 1-0 in the Championship thanks to Jake Taylor's first ever goal for the Royals.

Jake Taylor's first ever goal for Reading has secured victory for his side against Ipswich Town this afternoon.

There was an early chance for Simon Cox after he crept into the area, but Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken did well to block the Reading striker's effort with his legs.

The Royals were unfortunate not to go ahead minutes later after Jay Tabb's corner was twice prodded towards goal, but Chris Gunter cleared off the line following a goalmouth scramble.

They eventually got the breakthrough thanks to Taylor, who chased down a long ball that wasn't properly dealt with before cleverly slotting home from a tough angle.

Ipswich fought back after the break, with David McGoldrick at the heart of a number of visiting attacks.

First, the striker's deflected shot went just wide before his left-footed drive sliced inches past the post.

Tyrone Mings then came agonisingly close to an equaliser for Ipswich, but his header cannoned back off the crossbar before the rebound was put over the top.
