Seattle Sounders fight back to secure victory over Chivas USA

Seattle Sounders survive two early scares against Chivas USA to see off their bottom-placed opponents and strengthen their own lead at the top of the Western Conference.

Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders twice battled back from behind to overcome bottom side Chivas USA, recording a 4-2 victory at CenturyLink Field this evening.

The visitors took a surprise lead through Erick Torres with 12 minutes played following some good work from Carlos Borja inside the area, which allowed the striker to blast home.

Less than two minutes later Obafemi Martins unleashed a left-foot shot which flew past Dan Kennedy to level up the scores.

Lamar Neagle came within inches of putting the Rave Green ahead shortly after, but Chivas showed real character by regaining their lead through Borja, who tucked the ball away.

Seattle did manage to pull it back once more before the interval, though, when Neagle cooly found the net when played through one-on-one, and Martins then slid in Clint Dempsey in added time to allow the division leaders to take the lead.

Martins added his second and Seattle's fourth 10 minutes after the restart with his chipped effort which deflected in, giving Sigi Schmid's charges breathing space for the first time.

Despite the early scare, the Sounders held out to secure all three points which extends their lead at the top of the division, while Los Rojiblancos remain rooted to the bottom.
