Sheffield Wednesday sink Birmingham City

Sheffield Wednesday sink Birmingham City with second-half strikes from Stevie May and Jeremy Helan.

Sheffield Wednesday's Stevie May and Jeremy Helan struck in the second half to secure a 2-0 win for their side at St Andrew's this evening.

May dribbled his way into the Birmingham City box on 67 minutes before firing hard and low into the bottom left of Darren Randolph's net, before Helan completed the victory with a last-minute strike.

Birmingham City had dominated the first half, but failed to find the breakthrough goal.

The lively Clayton Donaldon fired over in the opening minutes, then went close with a header from David Cotterill's corner on 12 minutes.

Paul Caddis nearly put his side ahead just after the half-hour mark, but his fierce 25-yard effort came back off the post.

However, despite Birmingham City's dominance they couldn't find a way past Kieron Westwood in the Sheffield Wednesday goal and the tie remained 0-0 at the interval.

The visitors improved dramatically after the break and went ahead through May's well-taken goal.

As the home side faded, Stuart Gray's team took control and completed their victory when Helan converted from Christopher Maguire's cross.
