Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane says that he is 'motivated' to beat the goalscoring records of Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has admitted that he would like to surpass the goalscoring records set by Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

The Argentine has scored over 40 goals in all competitions in each of the last nine seasons, while Kane has netted at least 28 times in the last four campaigns.

However, Kane has revealed that he is 'motivated' to try to match Messi in the future, acknowledging that the attacker and Cristiano Ronaldo have "set the standard" in world football.

At a press conference, Kane told reporters: "He's set the standard. He and Ronaldo have gone above the normal standard set by people in years gone past.

"Fifty-sixty goals a season, as a striker I want to try to match that and do the same. He's still scoring goals as well and it motivates me as well to score as many and if not more than him one day."

Kane and Messi will go head to head at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night when Spurs play host to Barca in the Champions League.
