Preview: Leyton Orient vs. Tottenham Hotspur - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Pre-Season Friendlies clash between Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Nuno Espirito Santo's first game in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout takes place on Saturday as his side travel to the Matchroom Stadium for a friendly against Leyton Orient.

The League Two side have already navigated two friendly fixtures this month, losing to Dundee before holding West Ham United to a goalless draw on Tuesday.

Kenny Jackett's first home game in charge of Leyton Orient may not have produced any goals, but it was a memorable occasion nonetheless, as West Ham could not find a way through during a 0-0 stalemate on Tuesday night.

That game took place on the same evening that the Hammers' squad was split into two - with the other half taking on and beating Northampton Town - but experienced pros such as Mark Noble, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio were all on show against Jackett's side.

The result comes after Leyton Orient were put to the sword 3-0 by Dundee during their first friendly encounter of pre-season, and Jackett was understandably upbeat after holding the Europa League side - albeit a heavily altered one - to an impressive draw on home soil.

Orient will be taking on Maidenhead United, Gillingham and Heybridge Swifts before their League Two campaign kicks off next month, and after managing to secure an 11th-placed finish last term, the top half is not an unrealistic expectation for Jackett's troops.

Out with the old Portuguese, in with the new one for Tottenham Hotspur. Daniel Levy was frustrated time and time again in his search for a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho, and it seemed like Ryan Mason would still be in control of the reins for a short while.

However, following the appointment of Fabio Paratici as the club's managing director, Tottenham finally whittled down their list of remaining available candidates to secure the signature of Nuno Espirito Santo following his somewhat surprising exit from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Porto goalkeeper's final season at Molineux may not have been a memorable one, but having helped transform Wolves from a Championship team to a European-chasing Premier League outfit, there are plenty of reasons for optimism ahead of the new campaign.

As much as his work on the pitch will be under the spotlight, Nuno already has unenviable tasks to complete behind the scenes - none more so critical than keeping Harry Kane on the books - and speculation surrounding a defensive reshuffle gathers pace as Spurs prepare for their participation in the inaugural Europa Conference League next term.

Nuno will also lead his side through friendlies with Colchester United, MK Dons, Arsenal and Chelsea before their Premier League campaign opens against reigning champions Manchester City on August 15, and the Spurs boss will relish the chance to get acquainted with his squad in the coming days.

Team News

Leyton Orient boss Jackett sang the praises of the club's youthful contingent who starred against West Ham, and the starlets would dearly love to test themselves against Nuno's Premier League crop.

Goalkeeper Sam Sargeant enjoyed an impressive 30-minute cameo against West Ham, but Jackett may continue with the more experienced Lawrence Vigouroux in between the sticks.

Spurs were represented internationally by nine players in the Euros and Copa America tournaments just gone, with the likes of Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez not due back until August.

Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld and Joe Rodon ought to return sooner but are enjoying more time off at the moment, while Matt Doherty will hope that reuniting with Nuno can help him finally kickstart his Spurs career.

Nuno is rumoured to be favouring a two-man attacking approach - which would likely see Spurs line up with three central defenders - but he was also partial to a 4-2-3-1 during his final days at Wolves, and he will certainly be tasked with bringing the attacking flow back to North London.

Leyton Orient possible starting lineup:
Vigouroux; Nkrumah, Happe, Ogie, Sweeney; Cisse, Kyprianou; Kemp, Young, Drinan; Sotiriou

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:
Whiteman; Doherty, Dier, Carter-Vickers, Sessegnon; Winks, Skipp; Clarke, Alli, Bergwijn; Parrott

We say: Leyton Orient 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

All eyes will be on Nuno's Spurs as the Portuguese seeks to get his North London career off to the optimal start in pre-season, and fans will relish the opportunity to watch some of the side's up-and-coming starlets in action.

Orient's fatigue may be catching up to them by this point - although Jackett is still expected to ring the changes - and we can only see Tottenham easing to victory this weekend.
