Uruguay to play Northern Ireland in World Cup warm-up game

Uruguay announce that they will play Northern Ireland in a World Cup warm-up match on May 30.

Uruguay have announced that they will play Northern Ireland in a World Cup warm-up match this summer.

Oscar Tabarez's side, who will face England in Group D on 19 June, will clash with Michael O'Neill's Green and White Army in between friendlies with Austria and Slovenia.

A statement on the Uruguayan Football Association website read: "The third and final opponent of the Uruguayan national team for their pre- World Cup preparation is confirmed.

"To the already fixed matches against Austria and Slovenia, it was determined that Northern Ireland will be the rival of Uruguay on May 30."

Northern Ireland last played Uruguay in New Jersey in 2006 when Fabian Estoyanoff scored the winner in a 1-0 victory for the South American side. That match was Tabarez's first game in charge.
