Saido Berahino closing in on West Brom return following spell at boot camp

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis says that Saido Berahino is close to returning to action after spending time building up his fitness at a training camp in France.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has claimed that Saido Berahino is close to returning to action after improving his fitness at a training camp in France.

The 23-year-old has struggled for form this season having played in just four Premier League games.

In order to combat weight issues, Berahino was put on a special programme by the club and was later sent to a training camp in France to work with a former colleague of Pulis's.

The striker has since returned to The Hawthorns, and his manager has been left encouraged by Berahino's attitude.

"I've had a good chat with him. He looks a lot brighter and sharper," Pulis told reporters in Thursday's press conference. "The next step is to get him some games. Physically he looks good but the most important thing for Saido now is to unravel who is giving him good advice.

"Sometimes he gets a bit confused with that. He has to work it out for himself. The most important thing for him now is football. He's got a God-given talent and he's got to get the most out of that.

"For the past year or so that hasn't happened. He's got to work out why that's happened."

Berahino will be vying for a spot in the Baggies' squad for Monday night's clash against Burnley.
