Half-Time Report: Ivan Ramis puts Wigan Athletic in charge

Ivan Ramis scores a superb volley to put Wigan Athletic ahead against West Ham United at the DW Stadium.

An early goal from Ivan Ramis at the DW Stadium has given Wigan Athletic the advantage over West Ham United at half-time.

The Latics soaked up some early pressure but managed to make the breakthrough in the eighth minute when Ramis met Shaun Maloney's corner with a superb volley.

Jussi Jaaskelainen had to be alert to keep the score at 1-0 following a dipping long-range shot from James McCarthy.

West Ham could have headed into the break on level terms but Ali Al-Habsi was able to frustrate Matt Jarvis with a good save from the midfielder's low shot.

Al Habsi was once again alert to protect Wigan's lead at the end of the first half with a block from a weak James Collins strike.
