Tiger Woods scored his first point of the Presidents Cup as the United States opened up a four-point lead ahead of the final day in Melbourne.
The former world number one was the only American yet to register a victory ahead of his morning foursomes match with Dustin Johnson but took a 3 & 2 win over Adam Scott and KJ Choi.
The win was the Americans' fourth of the morning session as they extended their lead but the Internationals rallied in the afternoon, winning the first three fourballs before the US clinched the final two matches to end the day 13-9 ahed.
Fred Couples's team now require four points from the 12 singles matches on Sunday to retain their trophy and avenge their one and only loss to the Internationals which came at the same venue - Royal Melbourne - 13 years ago.
