Simona Halep goes through to her first-ever Madrid Open quarter-finals after beating Sabine Lisicki 5-7 6-3 6-2.

Simona Halep is through to her first-ever Mutua Madrid Open quarter-final after beating Sabine Lisicki 5-7 6-3 6-2.

Lisicki got the better of a back-and-forth tie in the opening exchanges as Halep dropped the first set of the match.

Halep then broke the German in the second to wrap up the set in 47 minutes before breezing through the third with an assured display to qualify for the last eight.

The Romanian will now meet Ana Ivanovic in the next round.
