Scotland's sole male representative at the Commonwealth Games diving, James Heatly, has said that his "legs were shaking" when he was first introduced to the home crowd yesterday.
The 17-year-old is competing in the springboard events at his local pool, the 'Commie' in Edinburgh, and yesterday impressed in the 1m final.
Heatly finished ninth with a score of 345.60 and told Sports Mole: "I was really nervous at the beginning when we walked in, my legs were shaking and I had butterflies, but then standing on the board and listening to all the cheering it calmed me down actually."
Heatly, 17, is the grandson of Sir Peter Heatly, Scotland's most decorated diver, who won gold medals at three straight British Empire Games between 1950 and 1958.
Of his grandfather, Heatly told reporters: "He's a lot of help with some things like handling pressure, but the way that the sport's changed over the years I don't get technical feedback from him. I get that from my coach."
Heatly is today competing in the 3m springboard final.
