Hearts deny Aberdeen shot at Scottish record

Abiola Dauda's second-half goal secures Hearts all three points away at Aberdeen, who miss out on a chance of making history.

Aberdeen passed up the opportunity to make history in the Scottish top flight this evening as Hearts ran out 1-0 winners at Pittodrie.

Victory would have given Derek McInnes's side a chance of bettering the 75 points that they amassed last season, thus beating their own points record for a non-Old Firm club.

However, following tonight's loss to their third-placed visitors, the Dons will now fall short, regardless of the weekend's result against Ross County in the final round of matches.

The goal that did the damage came in the 64th minute courtesy of loanee frontman Abiola Dauda.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Adam Collin could only parry Alim Ozturk's free kick and the Nigerian striker was on hand to turn the ball in from close range.

The home side offered very little in the way of a response in the minutes that remained, meaning that the gap from second to third has been cut to seven points.
