Frank de Boer admits Samuel Eto'o interest

Ajax manager Frank de Boer admits an interest in free agent Samuel Eto'o, who has been linked with West Ham United since being released by Chelsea earlier this summer.

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has said he is interested in signing former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o.

The Cameroon striker, who has been a free agent since leaving Stamford Bridge, reportedly spoke to the Dutch giants last week.

De Boer told Fox Sports: "It would be great for us if we could get a player like him. He has still got the ambition to show what he's got. He must take a role as leader, show our young players what it means to be a professional football player.

"He must be an example for our youth. I want him to show why he wants to come to us. We're looking for a striker and if it will be him, that would be great."

Ajax begin their season at home to Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday afternoon.
