Manchester City midfielder David Silva's record vs. Arsenal

Ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash between Manchester City and Arsenal, Sports Mole looks at how David Silva has fared against the Gunners in the past.

Manchester City welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday looking to bounce back from one of the most unexpected defeats of the Pep Guardiola era.

The champions were beaten by struggling Newcastle United for the first time in 14 years on Tuesday night, despite taking the lead after only 24 seconds at St James' Park.

David Silva assisted that City goal and played the full 90 minutes as his side fell to a defeat which ultimately saw them slip an extra point adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Spanish playmaker has fared against Arsenal in the past.

Silva's assist against Newcastle in midweek means that the Magpies are now the only team against whom he has directly contributed more goals than against Arsenal.

The 33-year-old has picked up five goals and four assists in 16 previous meetings across all competitions, with all but one of those goal contributions coming in the Premier League.

Silva missed the reverse fixture between the two sides earlier this season, but scored twice within a few days against the Gunners last term when City recorded back-to-back 3-0 wins in the EFL Cup final and Premier League.

Indeed, the Spaniard has now had a hand in five goals in the last six editions of this fixture across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting three more.

Silva has not scored a home goal against the North Londoners for more than five years, though, most recently doing so in a 6-3 thrashing in December 2013.
