Mikel Arteta rues missed chances

Mikel Arteta believes that Arsenal should have beaten Chelsea following Monday's 0-0 draw between the sides.

Mikel Arteta has claimed that Arsenal should have beaten Chelsea following Monday's goalless draw between the sides in the Premier League.

The Gunners missed the chance to return to the top of the table at the Emirates Stadium as both teams failed to find the net during a feisty encounter.

However, Arteta believes that the hosts could have won the match had they taken their opportunities in front of goal.

"I think we lost two points there," the Spaniard told the club's official website. "It is not a bad result but I think we had enough chances in the second half to win it.

"It is a shame because you could see that they only want to defend and the substitutions they made they were happy to sit back and defend. We threw everything up to try to score and it is a shame that we didn't."

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Boxing Day when they make the short trip to West Ham United.
