Arsene Wenger says that he may register a complaint after Thomas Vermaelen aggravated an ankle injury while on international duty with Belgium.

Arsene Wenger has said that he may register a complaint with FIFA after Thomas Vermaelen aggravated an ankle injury while on international duty with Belgium.

The defender played 90 minutes in his country's 1-1 draw in Greece on Wednesday, despite being injured.

As a result, the 26-year-old is now in serious doubt for Arsenal's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

"I will look at putting a complaint in because they forced the payer to travel first and then to play 90 minutes after being injured," said Wenger.

"They had a centre-back on the bench who did not play at all - in a friendly game. They are not at the Euro Championships and it is very difficult for me to understand."

Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax for £10m in June 2009.
