Arsene Wenger: 'Staying as Arsenal manager should not be a surprise'

Arsene Wenger says that nobody should be 'surprised' by his decision to stay as Arsenal manager.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that nobody should be 'surprised' that he has opted against walking away from his job at the Emirates.

The Frenchman has come under pressure from disgruntled supporters, some of whom recently unfurled a banner calling for their manager to step down.

Wenger, who will celebrate 20 years in charge of the club in September, has come under criticism in recent weeks after the team were knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League.

The North London outfit have also fallen away in the Premier League title race as they are currently 11 points behind leaders Leicester City.

"This club has values and one of them is that we respect our contract and people work for the club respect that contract, so that shouldn't be a surprise," Wenger told reporters in Friday's press conference. "I've been here for 19 years and I've always done that.

"I think the supporters have to get united and be behind the team. My individual case is less important."

Arsenal have earned just one victory in their last four league matches.
