Arsene Wenger: 'It's time for video technology'

Arsene Wenger believes that it is imperative for video technology to be introduced following a week of blunders by match officials.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that the Football Association should embrace the idea of video technology now more than ever.

A number of refereeing blunders have hit the headlines in recent weeks, with two Chelsea offside goals being allowed in their 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday, as well as a debatable penalty for Manchester United and sending-off for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry in the Red Devils' 2-0 win over Rangers on Sunday.

"Video will help the referees," said Wenger. "It will give them more credit, more authority and less mistakes. We have to accept we have the most conservative approach to the game than any other sport. It can be a strength but on the refereeing side I think it is a weakness.

"It's time for us to help the referees and all be united by having a less conservative approach. We finally need to opt for video because video will help the referees. It will give them more credit, more authority and less mistakes."

There have been suggestions that goal-line technology could be introduced to the Premier League for the 2013-14 season.
