Bob Wilson: 'Don Howe one of greatest coaches in football history'

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson hails Don Howe as one of the greatest coaches in football history following his passing aged 80.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson has declared Don Howe as one of the greatest coaches in football history following his passing today.

Howe played at international level for England but truly made his name after hanging up his boots, going on to forge a career as one of the most successful and highly-respected coaches in English football.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal full-back helped the Gunners to claim the double in 1971 and reach three further FA Cup finals, as well as being assistant manager when Wimbledon stunned Liverpool to win the 1988 FA Cup.

"He was a fine player but truly he was one of the greatest coaches ever in football," Wilson is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"He was innovative and for us as a club he was instrumental and inspirational. He made us believe as a team. He should be remembered forever for his contribution to coaching in England."

Howe also showcased his coaching talents at international level, helping England to the semi-finals at both Italia '90 and Euro '96.
