Harry Kane brace gives Tottenham Hotspur win over Arsenal

Harry Kane scores twice in the second half to give Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win over North London rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

Harry Kane scored two goals in the second half as Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in the North London Derby at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

Kane could have given the home side the lead just a few minutes into the tie when Moussa Dembele played him in, but David Ospina was ready in the Arsenal goal to deny the striker with a stretching save.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock, though, as Danny Welbeck tried to set up Olivier Giroud, and the French international's mishit shot was turned past Hugo Lloris by Mesut Ozil at the far post.

Spurs responded as they tried to get back on level terms before the break, but Ospina pulled off a string of saves to keep out efforts from Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason.

Christian Eriksen and Kane linked up a couple of times late in the half, but Kane fired wide before being caught offside, while Ospina denied the Dane from a free kick.

Lloris came under pressure at the start of the second half as Santi Cazorla tried to pick out the bottom corner, but the keeper managed to tip around the post.

The hosts were back on level terms a few minutes later when Kane knocked the ball in for his 21st goal of the season, pouncing after Ospina failed to punch clear from a corner.

Spurs could have been ahead a few minutes later, but the Colombian keeper continued to frustrate the hosts, thwarting Dembele before Kane was denied a chance at a rebound after being flagged offside.

Lloris had to be alert again as the Gunners looked to retake the lead, but he was able to stretch to keep out a curled shot at the top corner from Welbeck.

The hosts were soon back down the other end with Mason hitting the ball on the volley, but it was straight at Ospina, while the keeper was needed again moments later when Eriksen and Kane both forced saves in a goalline scramble.

Both sides were on the attack in the final 10 minutes as they pressed for the victory, and it was the home side who got the breakthrough as Bentaleb picked out Kane with a cross, leaving the striker to rise high and head home.

Tomas Rosicky attempted to get it back on level terms in the final moments as he volleyed the ball at Lloris, but the Spurs keeper held on.

The result moves Spurs up to fourth in the table, while Arsenal drop to sixth.
