Nacho Monreal "very happy" at Arsenal

Nacho Monreal insists that he is "very happy" at Arsenal and intends to stay and fight for his place in the starting XI next season.

Nacho Monreal has insisted that he is "very happy" to be at Arsenal and wants to stay to fight for his place in the starting XI, despite being linked with a move away from the Emirates.

The Spanish defender became the favoured full-back last season over Kieran Gibbs, who struggled to overcome ongoing fitness issues and injuries.

After making 39 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions Monreal is attracting the attention of other clubs, but the 29-year-old is keen to stay with the Premier League side.

"I'm very happy at Arsenal. Of course I enjoyed playing in a lot of the games last season and that is the target again - that is all I can say right now," Monreal told Goal.com.

"When you play for Arsenal, you know they are one of the biggest clubs in England but, here in Singapore, you see they are also one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"The reception we get from the fans everywhere we go is amazing to see for the players and we are very happy to be here with them."

Athletic Bilbao are reportedly interested in signing the left-back.
