Report: Atletico Madrid lead Ivan Rakitic race

A report claims that Atletico Madrid are now the favourites to sign Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla.

Atletico Madrid have reportedly emerged as the favourites to sign Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic, with Real Madrid becoming increasingly frustrated in their pursuit.

The Croatian international is widely regarded as one of the best playmakers in European football, with his performances over the last couple of seasons drawing a host of outside interest.

Sevilla have continually insisted that the 26-year-old is not for sale, but a new deal, which has been put on the table, has still not been signed by the player.

Real Madrid had reportedly been the favourites for his signature, but according to Cadena COPE, Atletico now lead the race.

Rakitic, who has also been linked with Barcelona, contributed 12 goals and 10 assists in the league for Sevilla last season.
