Neymar: 'I'll never be like Pele'

Neymar plays down comparisons to countryman Pele.

Neymar has played down comparisons to Pele after the Brazilian legend said that he can be better than him.

The Santos striker, who last week made the shortlist for the FIFPro World XI, is considered to be among the best footballers in the world and has been linked with moves to both Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent months.

However, the 19-year-old insists that there is only one Pele.

"Pele was a legend," he said. "One of a kind. I'll never be like him."

The Brazil international is this week in Japan to attend the Club World Cup, where Santos have been tipped to meet Barcelona, and Lionel Messi – who he has also been compared to – in the final.

"I haven't come here to prove anything to anyone," he continued. "I've always said Messi is the best player in the world."

Neymar has scored 40 goals in 85 appearances for the Brazilian club since being named in the senior side in 2009.
