Report: Carlos Puyol to announce retirement

Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol calls a press conference for this afternoon, when it is reported that he will announce his retirement from professional football.

Barcelona skipper Carlos Puyol has reportedly called a press conference for this afternoon, where it is believed that he will announce his retirement from the game.

The long-serving centre-back has been with the Spanish outfit since 1995, making close to 600 appearances since making his first-team debut in 1999.

However, the 35-year-old has been used sparingly this season due to an ongoing knee complaint, which has not fully healed despite an extended period of rest.

The press conference has been set for 3pm UK time.
