Real Betis sign Leandro Damiao on short-term deal

Brazilian forward Leandro Damiao, who left Santos in December, signs a short-term deal with La Liga team Real Betis.

Real Betis have signed Brazilian forward Leandro Damiao on a contract until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old was once regarded as one of the best young talents in Brazilian football during his time with Internacional between 2009 and 2013.

The striker also has 17 Brazil caps to his name, scoring three times in the process, but his career has stalled in recent years and he departed Santos on a free transfer in December.

However, Betis have swooped to land the attacker, who passed a medical earlier this week and has now been cleared to make his debut for the La Liga club.

Damiao will join a Betis team that are currently 15th in La Liga, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
