Blackpool ease past Blackburn Rovers

Goals from Wes Thomas and Kirk Broadfoot gave Blackpool a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Wes Thomas and Kirk Broadfoot scored either side of the break to give Blackpool a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers this afternoon.

Thomas headed home Nathan Delfouneso's cross in the first half, before Broadfoot secured the home side's victory with a powerful header from a corner.

It was the visitors who had the first chance of the match, with Gael Givet picking up a loose ball in the box but he put his shot well over.

The hosts responded within minutes, as Thomas Ince cut inside before curling his 25-yard effort just wide of the post.

Blackburn responded, and forced Matt Gilks into making two smart saves in a minute - the first from Jordan Rhodes before a long-range effort from Simon Vuckevic.

However, it was the Seasiders who went ahead midway through the first half, as Thomas rose highest to nod home from a Delfouneso cross.

Rovers came close to an equaliser 10 minutes before the break, as Josh King found space and looked to find Dickson Etuhu in the middle, but shot wide.

The visitors were then denied a leveller by the post, as Vuckevic shot from inside the area before his effort bounced off the upright.

After a scrappy opening to the second half, it was the Seasiders who had the first real attempt at goal with 25 minutes left to play.

A nice passing move from Blackpool led to a one-two between Ince and Bob Harris on the edge of the area, before the latter fired his shot over.

However, the home side doubled their lead with eight minutes of normal time to go, as Kirk Broadfoot rose unmarked to power home a header from a corner.

Rovers nearly found a way back into the game, but Gilks's one-handed save denied King a goal.

Blackpool did have the ball in the back of the net again but had their effort disallowed for offside just before the full-time whistle.

The Seasiders stay 11th despite the win, while Rovers slip to 15th in the table.
