Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has admitted that the Cherries are targeting victories in their upcoming fixtures before facing a difficult conclusion to their opening Premier League campaign.
The south coast club are scheduled to play Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United in their final eight fixtures, but they moved closer to safety on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 win over Southampton.
Cook and Benik Afobe netted the goals to take Eddie Howe's men eight points clear of the relegation zone, and Cook has acknowledged that beating their rivals was a "huge" result.
The 24-year-old told BT Sport: "It was huge. We targeted these games to get points early.
"It has been well-documented about our end-of-season run-in. It is vital that we get the points early but we have shown tonight that we are capable of beating anyone."
Bournemouth are next in action when they face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.
