Leyton Orient extend 100% start

David Mooney and Shaun Batt secure an eighth successive win for Leyton Orient in League One as they beat Brentford 2-0 at Griffin Park.

Leyton Orient have continued their 100% start in League One with an eighth successive win this evening, grinding out a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Brentford at Griffin Park.

Both sides came into the match in strong form but struggled to carve out chances in a tight first period, with Harlee Dean clearing Orient's brightest opening off the line following a long throw.

Brentford kept the ball well but Clayton Donaldson flicked wide their best opening of the first period, before curling just over the crossbar from 20 yards early in the second half.

Uwe Rosler's side were made to pay for not taking those chances on 65 minutes when Orient were awarded a penalty, with Shaleum Logan penalised for hauling David Mooney over in the box.

Mooney dusted himself down to take the spot kick and fired home his eighth goal of the campaign to break the deadlock.

Brentford threw on Joao Teixeira and Marcello Trotta in search of an equaliser, but it was Orient's super-sub Shaun Batt who made sure of the win five minutes from time.

Batt burst onto a slick through-ball from Moses Odubajo late on and guided it into the bottom corner with a clinical finish that kept a record-breaking run on track for Russell Slade's side.
