Andre Gray grabs victory for Brentford

Andre Gray hands Brentford a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brentford consolidated their place in the Championship playoff spots with a 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon.

Inigo Zapateria Calderon came close to opening the scoring for the hosts in the opening 10 minutes, but his effort was well saved by David Button.

Solly March was the next to be denied by Button when his long-range effort was turned away by the Brentford goalkeeper.

The away side then took the lead when Gray miskicked his effort against Joseph Bennett and the ball looped over David Stockdale and into the back of the net.

Craig Mackail-Smith volleyed straight at Button shortly after the restart, but the home side's task was made more difficult when Lewis Dunk was dismissed following a second yellow card for a shove on Brentford's Spanish midfielder Jota on the hour mark.

Substitutes Chris O'Grady and Adrian Colunga combined superbly to tee up the latter with time running out, but the Spanish striker was denied by the impressive Button.

The result means that Brentford stay in fifth place, while Brighton remain 19th.
