Burnley striker Charlie Austin's season is likely to be over after he underwent surgery to move his appendix this morning.

Burnley striker Charlie Austin is likely to miss the rest of this season after having his appendix removed earlier today.

Austin felt unwell during training yesterday and after tests was diagnosed with appendicitis.

He was immediately booked in for surgery and ruled out of tonight's Championship clash with Leeds United.

The Clarets are now likely to be without their top scorer for the final four games of the season as they look to secure a top-half finish.

The 23-year-old has scored 28 goals in all competitions this season, with only Crystal Palace forward Glenn Murray and Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes above him in the Championship scoring charts.
