Cagliari sack Massimo Ficcadenti, appoint Ivo Pulga

Cagliari sack Massimo Ficcadenti and name Ivo Pulga as their new manager after a poor start to the season.

Cagliari have sacked manager Massimo Ficcadenti and appointed an instant replacement in Ivo Pulga.

Ficcadenti has now been dismissed twice by Cagliari in under 11 months, having re-joined the club in March.

Pulga is a surprise choice as boss, with the former Modena youth coach having no previous managerial experience.

A statement on Cagliari's official website confirmed the news that Pulga is their new boss.

The statement said: "We can confirm the end of the working relationship between Massimo Ficcadenti and the club.

"He deserves our thanks for what he did for Cagliari Calcio. Preparation has now begun for our game at Torino on Sunday, and today's (Tuesday's) training session was directed by our new coach Ivo Pulga and his staff.

"Pulga will be presented to the press on Wednesday afternoon."

Cagliari remain the only team in Serie A without a win so far this season and currently sit bottom of Italy's top division after six matches.
