Celtic confirm talks with Craig Gordon

Celtic confirm that they are close to signing former Hearts and Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who has not played in over two years because of injuries.

Craig Gordon is in negotiations with Celtic over a possible return to football after two years out of the game.

The injury-prone former Hearts and Sunderland goalkeeper, who has been working with physiotherapists over the last 18 months in a bid to rebuild his fitness, has been training at Parkhead to try to earn a contract and has impressed Bhoys coach Stevie Woods.

Chief executive Peter Lawwell revealed that the club are close to agreeing a deal to sign the 31-year-old, who became Britain's most expensive ever goalkeeper when he moved from Rangers to the Stadium of Light for £9m in 2007.

"He came, he trained with us and was excellent - so we might be close on that one," Lawwell told reporters.

"Stevie Woods couldn't have spoken highly enough of him. He has been in training with us and we're just going through discussions with his agent at the moment to see if anything comes out of that."

Forty-times capped Scottish international Gordon could work alongside new Celtic manager Ronny Deila, the Norwegian who has been confirmed as successor to Neil Lennon on a 12-month rolling deal.
