Gerard Pique: 'Champions League most important'

Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique claims that the Champions League is more important to the Catalan club than success in La Liga.

Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique has claimed that success in the Champions League is more important to the Catalan club than winning another La Liga title.

Luis Enrique's side looked to be breezing towards another league success, but back-to-back defeats in Spain's top flight has seen Atletico Madrid close the gap to just three points at the summit.

Pique, however, has hinted that Barcelona would be prepared to accept disappointment in the league if it meant that another European Cup arrived at Camp Nou.

"The important game is Wednesday. That's where we're playing in the most important competition of all," Pique told reporters.

Barcelona will take a 2-1 advantage into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final away to Atletico next week.
