Jose Mourinho critical of misfiring strikers

Jose Mourinho defends his decision to field no recognised striker in Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has defended his decision to field no recognised striker against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues boss opted to play Andre Schurrle as the most advanced midfield player, leaving Fernando Torres on the bench until the hour mark on Wednesday night.

"I'm not happy with my strikers' performances, so I have to try things," Mourinho is quoted as saying by Clubcall.

"With Andre at least I know we have one more player to have the ball, we have one more player to associate with the other players. Football is also about scoring goals. That is for strikers, for real strikers. I had to try."

Chelsea lost the first-leg clash 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.
