Phil Neville: 'Kurt Zouma has got into the mind of Gary Cahill'

Chelsea's Gary Cahill is feeling pressure for his place from youngster Kurt Zouma, according to Phil Neville.

Phil Neville has said that Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is under pressure from rival Kurt Zouma, after the defender's error led to Edinson Cavani's equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tonight.

Cahill has been dropped for big games against Manchester City and Liverpool recently due to Zouma's impressive run of form over the last month, and Neville thinks that it is clearly getting to him as his lapse in concentration allowed Cavani to head home unmarked.

He told BBC Sport: "Gary Cahill, as a centre-back, shouldn't go outside the width of his keeper's posts. He got attracted towards the ball and that's why it looked like a gaping hole in which Cavani rose to score.

"From what I've seen tonight, and I'm a fan of Cahill and he's the best centre-back in the England team, but he's been left out for recent high-profile games against Manchester City and Liverpool and there was hesitancy and doubt in his mind tonight.

"There were moments when a confident Cahill would have won the ball. He's feeling the pressure of Zouma, because [John] Terry's form is not dropping. It's between Cahill and Zouma as to who will partner Terry."

Chelsea next face Burnley on Saturday.
