Former Chelsea midfielder Alexei Smertin believes that Jose Mourinho's priority will be to win the Champions League following his return to the club.

Former Chelsea midfielder Alexei Smertin has claimed that Jose Mourinho's top priority will be to win the Champions League following his return to the club.

Mourinho left the Blues in 2007 but was announced as their new manager on Monday after three years at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese won a number of honours during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, only to miss out on European club football's top prize.

"His target will be to win this trophy," Smertin is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Mourinho, who is expected to be unveiled as the new Chelsea boss on Monday, has joined the club on a four-year contract.
