How Chelsea could line up against FC Krasnodar

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for their Champions League match against FC Krasnodar on Wednesday.

Chelsea will be looking to end a run of three successive draws when they travel to Russia to take on FC Krasnodar in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Blues opened their European campaign with a goalless stalemate against Sevilla last week, and Chelsea also failed to find the back of the net against Manchester United at the weekend as the Red Devils held Frank Lampard's men to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Chelsea can feel confident about coming up trumps against a Krasnodar side plagued with injuries at the minute, but rotation could be on the cards for the visitors as Lampard looks to navigate an unrelenting fixture schedule heading into the winter months.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for their trip to Krasnodar.

With Chelsea looking to improve their results in the Premier League, Lampard may be tempted to ring the changes for Wednesday's game, although Krasnodar are not to be underestimated and the Blues will want to kickstart their Champions League campaign as soon as possible.

The only injury concerns that Lampard must contend with are Billy Gilmour and Kepa Arrizabalaga, although the latter was never likely to challenge Edouard Mendy for the number one spot, while Thiago Silva has also been left at home to rest and recover.

Given Chelsea's defensive frailties in recent times, Lampard opted for a three-man central defence against United, which worked to great effect as the Blues kept their second clean sheet in a row, but Chelsea will likely switch back to a 4-2-3-1 here.

One summer signing who could be in line for his full debut is Hakim Ziyech, who has come off the bench in Chelsea's last three matches in all competitions, and the former Ajax man could start on the right-hand side here with Christian Pulisic or Callum Hudson-Odoi occupying the opposite flank.

Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are yet to properly make their mark at Stamford Bridge since their big-money arrivals and may be given the night off here, which should see Mason Mount come back into the fold along with fellow Englishman Tammy Abraham, although Olivier Giroud will also be vying for a start at the forefront of the Chelsea attack.

Rotation could also strike in midfield with Mateo Kovacic in contention for a starting role, but Reece James, Kurt Zouma and Ben Chilwell should retain their spots in defence, while Antonio Rudiger could come in to replace Silva despite his recent struggles under Lampard.
