John Terry says that he was unfortunate to give away a penalty during Chelsea's win over Rubin Kazan.

Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted that the penalty decision given against him during his side's win over Rubin Kazan was harsh.

A Fernando Torres brace and a goal from Victor Moses helped the Blues to a 3-1 victory in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday night.

However, the London outfit conceded an away goal from the penalty spot before the break when Terry was deemed guilty of handling the ball, but the 32-year-old is adamant that he was unlucky to be penalised.

"When someone has a shot 10 yards away it is difficult to get out of the way," Terry told ESPN.

"I had my arms down by my side. [The referees' interpretation] is different all around the world. We need to set the record straight all around.

"It's different if my arms are up, but when your arms are down by your side, it's difficult."
