Roberto Di Matteo is reportedly close to turning down the offer of a one-year deal from Chelsea.

The Italian guided the Blues to the FA Cup and Champions League last season after taking over from Andre Villas-Boas on an interim basis.

Despite talk of a short-term contract from owner Roman Abramovich, the 41-year-old believes that his achievements warrant a longer stay, according to The Sun.

Di Matteo spent six years as a player at Stamford Bridge before he retired in 2002.
