Juan Mata: 'Diego Costa will thrive in English football'

Former Chelsea player Juan Mata says that Spanish teammate Diego Costa will thrive at Stamford Bridge should he join the club.

Juan Mata believes that Diego Costa will thrive as a Chelsea player should his proposed transfer go through.

The former Blues midfielder, who made 83 appearances for the club before joining Manchester United in January, is currently on international duty with Spain teammate Costa.

A report on Wednesday afternoon claimed that the Atletico Madrid striker had passed a medical at Stamford Bridge, but no official confirmation has yet been made.

"I wish him the best," Mata is quoted as saying by Goal.com. "He is a forward who is very well suited to English football because of his power and strength.

"He is the type of player that thrives there, but at the moment he is still an Atletico player."

Costa scored 35 goals in all competitions for Los Rojiblancos last season.
