Barnsley secure Jacob Mellis on two-year deal

Former Chelsea midfielder joins Barnsley on a two-year contract after getting sacked from Stamford Bridge earlier this year.

Barnsley have completed the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis.

News had recently emerged that the 21-year-old was close to coming to an agreement over a new deal following the playmaker's dismissal from the Blues earlier this year.

The youngster was sacked by the Champions League winners in March for setting off a smoke grenade at the club's Cobham training ground.

Club manager Keith Hill told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to have got Jacob. He's a quality player and I am really looking forward to working with him.

"We're both on the same page as to what is to be expected and demanded from him. I can't think of a better talented player to recruit in the interest of bringing success to the football club."

Mellis has already spent time at Oakwell during a loan stint, where he netted two goals in 15 appearances.
