Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew reveals that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley was the first person to text him congratulations after the Eagles beat Tottenham.

Alan Pardew has revealed that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley was the first person to text him after his Crystal Palace side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Saturday.

Pardew left Newcastle after four years to return to Palace, where he spent four years as a player, and his former boss was the first to congratulate him on his first Premier League win at Selhurst Park.

The 53-year-old also said that it was nice to see the crowd on his side after a difficult end to his time at St James' Park.

He told reporters: "I have missed it in the last 18 months. I remember we won at Man United away last year, that was a proper team, we had Cabaye, Remy, a proper team, and I never got that since.

"So it was good to get back to that and the first person to text me after the game was Mike Ashley, a nice touch."

Jason Puncheon and Dwight Gayle scored the goals as Palace came from behind against Spurs.
