Neil Warnock blames Scott Dann for Aston Villa defeat

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock admits that an error from his "best player", Scott Dann, cost the Eagles in a 1-0 Premier League home defeat to Aston Villa.

Neil Warnock has hinted that Scott Dann was guilty over overcomplicating things as his error cost Crystal Palace in their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Tuesday.

The defender's mistake allowed Christian Benteke to score the only goal of the game at Selhurst Park as Villa leapfrogged Palace in the Premier League table.

Warnock feels that Dann has been his best player this season, but wished that he had simply 'lumped the ball into Row Z' prior to the 32nd-minute goal.

"I think he should have kicked it over the stand and not be ashamed to do it," he told reporters.

"Brede [Hangeland] could have come out as well but these decisions they make, they stand or fall.

"It's unfortunate for Scotty because he's probably been our best player. It's a cruel punishment but hopefully he'll learn by that: You can't score in Row Z can you?"

Reports this week claimed that England scouts would be at the match to monitor Dann's performance.
