Crystal Palace have failed in their pursuit of CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov after the Russian club made it clear that they did not want to sell their star player.

The Eagles reportedly launched a bid worth £14m for Chalov earlier this week, but this offer was turned down.

Roy Hodgson's side, who signed James McCarthy from Everton on Wednesday, made another deadline-day attempt to sign the Russia international.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in response to Palace's interest, Chalov's agent Christian Emile said: "Fedor is one of the most exciting talents in European football so it is natural that there is a lot interest in him.

"In particular, one English Premier League club made a substantial offer to buy him now, however CSKA did not agree.

"CSKA's position is understandable , they have important targets to achieve and Fedor is their most valuable player."

Chalov claimed 17 goals and registered seven assists over the course of the 2018-19 campaign, receiving his first pair of caps for the Russian national team in the process.

Palace ended deadline day without adding further attacking reinforcements but did manage to keep hold of Wilfried Zaha, although the winger is said to be 'devastated' by being denied a move to Everton.
